INTRODUCTION: RESOURCES

NATURAL RESOURCES:- resources obtained from nature without much modification, usually they are a free gift of nature. Sometimes tools and technology is used to use them in the best possible way:ex_air, water.

*All these things have and provide us utility (we need them, they satisfy our need)

-- all the resources have VALUE (economic  ex -metals & non-economic ex-landscape)

*Times and technology -- Evolution of resources over the period of time with the help resources,

eg -wheel to modern transportation 🚅,fire to cooking.🔥

TYPES OF RESOURCES:----

Generally classified into natural ,human-made & human resources.

NATURAL RESOURCES:- resources obtained from nature without much modification, usually they are a free gift of nature. Sometimes tools and technology is used to use them in the best possible way:ex_air, water.

NATURAL RESOURCES CLASSIFICATION:

*LEVEL OF DEVELOPMENT AND USES:

(i) Actual: those resources whose quantity is known to us and are being used by us

Eg- coal in Ruhr region in Germany, black soil of Maharashtra, etc.

(ii) Potential: those resources whose entire quantity is not known to us and these are not used entirly at present.

eg-wind and nuclear energy -> with the appropriate level of technology, they maybe  used in the future.

*ORIGIN of RESOURCES :

(i)Biotic: all the living things.

 ex-plants, animals and human.

(ii)Abiotic: all the non-living things

ex- soil ,rocks,and minerals

*STOCKS (RESOURCES ):

(i) Renewable: These resources are renewed or replaceable quickly for example sun and wind

(ii) Non-renewable: Those resources which have limited stocks takes thousands of year renew if gets exhausted ex-coal,petroleum.

*DISTRIBUTION of RESOURCES :

(i) Ubiquitous:Resources that are found everywhere ex-air ,sunlight

(ii) Localised:Resources that are found only in certain  places ex-copper,iron etc.

"DISTRIBUTION DEPENDS ON VARIOUS FACTORS LIKE : CLIMATE,ALTITUDE AND TERRAIN.

*HUMAN MADE RESOURCES:

Human-made resources—The word itself is self-explanatory.

Natural resource-->>original form changed = resources

ex-iron are became 0 resources when people learnt to extract iron from it.-->>humans interact with naturals substances to create resources according to their need. ex-building ,bridges, roads etc

*This  types of resources are called human-made resources.

*HUMAN RESOURCES:-->>HUMAN-->> knowledge, skill, and technology + resources

  • People can make the best use of nature to create more resources when they have the knowledge, skill, and technology to do so. That is why human beings are a special resource, which is also called human resources.

*Human resources development

(i) education

(ii) health

(iii) skills

- Enhances the quality of people; this helps in the development of other resources.

eg-story of Ram and shayam

CONSERVING RESOURCES:

---> used all resources sincerely and take time to get redeveloped.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT:

-->>Balancing the need to use resources and also conserve them for the future is called sustainable development.

HOW 😟?  By 3 R'S

*REDUCING CONSUMPTION, RECYCLING, AND REUSING.

*SOME PRINCIPLES OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT:

(i) respect and care for all forms of life

(ii) improve the quality of life

(iii) conserve the earth vitality and diversity

(iv) minimise the depletion of natural resources

(v) change personal attitude and practices towards the environment.

(vi) aware societies to take care of their own environment.
