This story is about a girl Bholi. She suffered from some brain damage disease and then used to stammer. She also suffered from the disease Small Pox which left pockmarks on her face. Because of her dullness and ugliness, people made fun of her. Her parents always used to think that who will marry such a dull and ugly girl. Bholi had three brothers and four sisters. And all of them were strong and very active as compared to her. One day the Tehsildar of the village came for the inauguration of a primary school, and he said to Bholi's father to send his children to school to set an example in front of villagers. He asked his wife but she didn't agree to send her daughter to school except for Bholi.

At first, Bholi frightened to go to school, but when she got good clothes and dress up, then she realizes that she must be going to a better place than her home. She was happy to see girls of her age, she thought she must get some friends over there. She was very delighted to see pictures on the walls. However, when the teacher asked her name she stammered and all of them started laughing, which discouraged her badly. But the teacher was a kind-hearted woman who made Bholi believe that if she comes to school daily then she may overcome stammering. Her words gave new hope to Bholi.

Years passed, the village became a small town. A marriage proposal came to Bholi, and it was from a lame old man. However, Ramlal and his wife agreed just because they want to get Bholi settled anyhow. Bholi's sisters were curious to see the pomp and splendor in their sister's wedding. When the groom was about to garland the bride, then he saw the face of Bholi full of pockmarks. Because of her ugliness, he demanded the dowry of five thousand rupees. Ramlal kept his turban on the groom's feet but he didn't refuse to take the dowry. So Ramlal finally agreed to give him the dowry.

Suddenly Bholi refused to marry such a greedy person and told everything without stammering even a single time. People were surprised to see Bholi in such away. She said that she will serve her parents when they become old and teach in the school. Her teacher was quietly watching this incident and feeling proud. That shows the importance of education. It has the power to give us the confidence from which we can face the whole world.

यह कहानी एक लड़की भोली की है। वह मस्तिष्क की कुछ बीमारी से पीड़ित थी और फिर हकलाने लगति थी। वह छोटी चेचक की बीमारी से भी पीड़ित थी जिसने उसके चेहरे पर निशान छोड़ दिया था। उसकी कमजोरी और कुरूपता के कारण लोगों ने उसका मजाक उड़ाया था। उसके माता-पिता हमेशा सोचते थे कि ऐसी सुस्त और बदसूरत लड़की से कौन शादी करेगा। भोली के तीन भाई और चार बहनें थीं। और वे सभी उसकी तुलना में मजबूत और बहुत सक्रिय थे। एक दिन गाँव के तहसीलदार एक प्राइमरी स्कूल के उद्घाटन के लिए आए, और उन्होंने भोली के पिता से कहा कि वह अपने बच्चों को स्कूल भेजकर गाँव वालों के सामने एक मिसाल कायम करें। उसने अपनी पत्नी से पूछा लेकिन वह भोली को छोड़कर अपनी बेटी को स्कूल भेजने के लिए राजी नहीं हुई।

पहले तो भोली स्कूल जाने से डरती थी लेकिन जब उसे अच्छे कपड़े और ड्रैसअप मिला तब उसे पता चलता है कि उसे अपने घर से बेहतर जगह पर जाना है। वह अपनी उम्र की लड़कियों को देखकर खुश थी, उसने सोचा कि उसे वहाँ पर कुछ दोस्त मिलेगी। दीवार पर चित्र देखकर वह बहुत खुश हुई। हालाँकि जब शिक्षिका ने उसका नाम पूछा तो वह हकला गई और सभी बच्चे हँसने लगे, जिससे वह बुरी तरह निराश हुई। लेकिन शिक्षक एक दयालु महिला थीं, जिन्होंने भोली को यह विश्वास दिलाया कि अगर वह रोज स्कूल आती है, तो वह हकलाना दूर कर सकती है। उसके शब्दों ने भोली को नई उम्मीद दी।
वर्षों बीत गए, गाँव छोटा शहर बन गया। एक शादी का प्रस्ताव भोली के पास आया और वह एक लंगड़े बूढ़े व्यक्ति से था। हालाँकि, रामलाल और उसकी पत्नी सिर्फ इसलिए सहमत हो गए क्योंकि वे भोली को किसी भी तरह से शादि करवाना चाहते थे। भोली की बहनें अपनी बहन की शादी में धूमधाम और भव्यता को देखने के लिए उत्सुक थीं। जब दूल्हा दुल्हन को माला पहनाने वाला था, तब उसने भोली के चेहरे को छोटी चेचक के निशान से भरा देखा। उसकी कुरूपता के कारण, उसने पांच हजार रुपये दहेज की मांग की। रामलाल ने दूल्हे के पैर में अपनी पगड़ी रखी, लेकिन उसने दहेज लेने से इनकार नहीं किया। इसलिए रामलाल आखिरकार उसे दहेज देने के लिए तैयार हो गया।

अचानक भोली ने इस तरह के लालची व्यक्ति से शादी करने से इनकार कर दिया और एक बार भी हकलाने के बिना सब कुछ बोली । भोली को इस तरह से देखकर लोग हैरान थे। उसने कहा कि वह अपने माता-पिता की सेवा करेगी जब वे बूढ़े हो जाएंगे और स्कूल में पढ़ाएंगे। उसके शिक्षक चुपचाप इस घटना को देख रहे थे और गर्व महसूस कर रहे थे।
